Scientifically, the brain is an autonomous organ that serves several highly specific and specialized purposes. Upon deeper reflection, I find that the human brain is what dictates individual realities— and when simplified, it is the only boundary between a person and the truth of the world. I conceptualize my brain as a machine that is simultaneously beautiful, scary, and often fails to function properly. Sentience is a series of animations composed from a 3D model of my skull and brain that I generated from several hundred MRI scans (of my own brain). The audio track is a compilation of industrial machinery, synthesizer drones, and mechanical equipment.
Process
400+ MRI Scans of my brain computer generated into a 3D model in the medical imaging program Osirix, then colorized and animated in Blender.
